Work in Progress

About Grameen University

A university prepares a young person to academically specialize in chosen branches of knowledge. Once this task is completed, the graduate is recognized as someone fit to begin a career in an organization and to continue in that job, or a similar one, until retirement. University education is designed to prepare a young person for a career in service to an organization.

Grameen University redefines the concept of a university, since its prime promoter believes that human beings are not born to spend a lifetime taking orders from superiors. They are born as creative beings. A job, by definition, takes away creativity. It creates submissiveness and shrinks, or even removes, creativity. Jobs are about following orders. This orientation abandons the most valuable power in human beings: the power of imagination.

Grameen University is dedicated to the vision of creating a world of three zeros: zero net carbon emissions, zero wealth concentration to end poverty, and zero unemployment by unleashing entrepreneurship in all. A Three Zero World is one where economic activity does not damage the environment, wealth does not remain concentrated in the hands of a few, and every human being is able to express creativity through entrepreneurship rather than depend on jobs.

Vision

Creating a world of three zeros: zero net carbon emissions, zero wealth concentration to end poverty, and zero unemployment by unleashing entrepreneurship in all.

Grameen University’s vision is rooted in a simple belief that every human being has enormous creative capacity. Education should not prepare young people only to become job seekers. It should prepare them to become job creators, social framework creators, problem solvers and builders of new and better versions of society.

Mission

To prepare every student to become a job-giver, a problem-solver, and a creator of opportunities, through rigorous academic degrees combined with a mandatory four-year entrepreneurial journey.

To develop skilled, responsible, and creative individuals who use knowledge, imagination, and enterprise to contribute to a world of zero net carbon emissions, zero wealth concentration to end poverty, and zero unemployment by unleashing entrepreneurship in all.

Academic Excellence

Grameen University focuses on the academic standards followed worldwide, offering formal degrees attesting to the excellence in the state-of-the-art knowledge, skill and creativity and efforts in adding to them, as expected from a top-class university.

Sustainability

Zero net carbon emissions is one of the three zeros that gives Grameen University its defined mission: economic progress that does not destroy the planet.

A student of environmental studies does not only learn about climate change or ecosystems. The student learns how environmental problems can be turned into solutions that create value, such as clean energy, waste reduction, upcycling, or sustainable livelihoods for communities.

Responsible leadership

Universities exist to continuously produce the best pilots and crew, so that they can bring us to our desired destination safely and quickly. The fate of humankind depends on their quality. So, Grameen University seeks faculty, staff, and institutional partners who share this responsibility and who are committed to the Three-Zero vision.

Inclusive Education

When we talk about young people we are talking about young men and young women. Leave behind the old world ideas of girls stay home, boys go out and get things done. Today both girls and boys are equal “super human beings”. Creativity is a genderless quality in human beings. World will always need to harvest all the creativity to make desired changes take place fast. So, Grameen University is committed to expanding educational opportunity for students from diverse backgrounds, including under-represented and economically disadvantaged communities.
