Program Overview
The Bachelor of Science in Physics & Chemistry at Grameen University is a four-year undergraduate program designed to provide students with a strong foundation in both physical sciences: Physics and Chemistry. This interdisciplinary degree equips students with analytical thinking, quantitative reasoning, and a deep understanding of fundamental scientific principles that are critical to advanced scientific research, technology innovation, and multidisciplinary careers.
Physics explores the fundamental laws governing matter, energy, and the universe, while Chemistry focuses on the composition, structure, properties, and reactions of matter — together preparing graduates for scientific problem-solving in academic, industrial, and research settings.
Educational Objectives
Graduates of the BSc in Physics & Chemistry program will be able to:
- Master core concepts in classical and modern physics, as well as organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry.
- Apply scientific methodologies to laboratory experiments, data analysis, and theoretical problem solving.
- Develop critical thinking and communication skills for interdisciplinary teamwork and scientific research.
- Prepare for careers or advanced studies in sciences, technology, engineering, education, or research.
Curriculum Structure
The curriculum integrates foundational sciences, core disciplinary courses, laboratory experience, electives, and research projects. Students take a balanced mix of Physics and Chemistry coursework alongside general education requirements and skills development modules.
Typical degree structure includes:
- General Education Courses – foundational academic breadth (e.g., mathematics, communication, humanities)
- Core Physics Courses – classical mechanics, electromagnetism, quantum theory, thermodynamics, optics, etc.
- Core Chemistry Courses – general chemistry, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, analytical techniques
- Laboratory Practicals – hands-on experiments in physics and chemistry laboratories
- Elective Courses – elective topics in advanced physics or chemistry fields
- Capstone Project / Research – independent research or thesis work completing the degree
Students are expected to complete approximately 130–140 credit hours over eight semesters with both theoretical and practical training.
Key Learning Components
Physics Topics May Include:
- Mechanics & Waves
- Thermal Physics & Radiation
- Electricity & Magnetism
- Quantum Mechanics
- Optics & Modern Physics
- Materials Science and Instrumentation
Chemistry Topics May Include:
- Atomic Structure and Chemical Bonding

Laboratory and Research Experience
Laboratory courses provide students with practical experience in designing experiments, operating scientific instruments, collecting and interpreting data, and reporting results clearly and reliably. A final-year research project enables students to investigate a chosen topic under faculty supervision and present findings in a dissertation or seminar.
Assessment Methods
Students are assessed through:
- Written examinations and quizzes
- Laboratory practicals and reports
- Term papers and presentations
- Capstone project report and oral defence
These assessments ensure mastery of both conceptual understanding and practical scientific skills.
Career Prospects
Graduates of the Physics & Chemistry program can pursue careers in:
- Scientific research and development
- Industrial laboratories (quality control, materials analysis)
- Pharmaceutical and chemical manufacturing
- Environmental science and energy sectors
- Education and academic roles
- Data science, technical consulting, and technology roles
Students are also well-prepared for postgraduate studies (MSc, MPhil, PhD) in physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering, or related disciplines.
Admission Requirements
To be eligible for the BSc in Physics & Chemistry program, applicants should:
- Have completed Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC) or equivalent with strong performance in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
