Mr. Md. Ashraful Hassan is the Chairman of Grameen Group — a global family of social businesses founded by Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus. As the custodian of Professor Yunus’s vision, Mr. Hassan leads and unifies Grameen’s diverse enterprises with the mission of achieving Zero Poverty, Zero Unemployment, and Zero Net Carbon Emissions.
His journey with Grameen spans more than 40 years, beginning as an engineer and steadily advancing into senior leadership across the Group. Over this period, he had the privilege to serve as Managing Director, CEO, and Executive Vice Chairman of several organizations, gaining deep knowledge and practical experience in diverse sectors. Currently, he is also serving as Managing Director & CEO of a number of Grameen companies, providing direct operational and strategic leadership.
Throughout his career, he has also been a board member in more than 30 organizations, including Grameenphone, Bangladesh’s largest telecom operator. This breadth of responsibility has allowed him to contribute to pioneering ventures in telecom, healthcare and healthtech, education, ICT, renewable energy, textiles and garments, distribution and retail, food and nutrition, employment generation, technology, infrastructure structure development, replication of micro finance & new entrepreneurship program, finance and financial inclusion, agriculture, fisheries & livestock and rural development.
In his leadership roles, he focuses on strategic direction, good governance, and global partnerships — ensuring that every Grameen enterprise stays true to its social business mission while embracing innovation and sustainability. He is committed to fostering inclusivity, advancing digital transformation, and driving climate-conscious solutions.
Above all, he sees his responsibility as safeguarding the Grameen legacy while preparing the next generation of leaders to expand its global impact. His mission remains clear: to prove that social business is a sustainable path toward a just and inclusive world.
