Professor Dr. Raquib Ahsan is a faculty member in the Department of Civil Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and a Trustee of Grameen University Trust. He also serves as Vice President of the American Concrete Institute Bangladesh Chapter and General Secretary of the Bangladesh Building Code Foundation, Bangladesh Chapter of the International Code Council.
Dr. Ahsan joined BUET in 1995 and became Professor in 2010. He has served as Director of the BUET-Japan Institute of Disaster Prevention and Urban Safety, Associate Director of Students’ Welfare at BUET. He was Editor of the Bangladesh Earthquake Society (2008–2010) and has been a visiting researcher in Japan and Canada.
He has made major policy contributions, including leading the National Plan for Disaster Management 2021–2025 and coordinating the Bangladesh National Building Code 2020. He also served as expert for preparing the Guideline on Circular Economy in Construction (2024) for the UN Agencies, Team Leader for the Framework on Business Continuity Plans for Economic Zones (2023), and Seismic Risk Specialist for the Disaster and Climate Change Risk Profile of Industry Sector under UNDP (2020–21). His advisory work has influenced disaster resilience, sustainable construction, and industrial risk management.
Dr. Ahsan specializes in earthquake engineering, disaster risk reduction, structural retrofitting, and sustainable infrastructure. With over 100 publications and extensive consultancy in national infrastructure safety, he integrates education, research, and policy to promote social responsibility and a sustainable future.
